MKFD200C flat die pellet mill with complete star-delta electrical panel

Pellet Mill Model Codes Explained: A, B, C, P and RB

October 30, 2026•4 min read

Every flat die pellet mill in our catalog has a model code like MKFD260C or MKFD300RB. The code tells you three things at a glance: the type of machine, the size of the die, and how the mill is powered and controlled. This guide explains each part so you can pick the right version for your farm or business.

How to read a model code

Take MKFD260C as an example:

  • MKFD means it is a flat die pellet mill.

  • 260 is the diameter of the die in millimeters. A larger die produces more pellets per hour and needs more power.

  • C is the version: how the machine is powered and what kind of electrical panel it has.

Our flat die mills come with dies of 200, 230, 260, 300, 360 and 400 mm.

Two designs: rotating die and rotating roller

Rotating die (standard models)

In our standard flat die mills, the die turns with the drive shaft. The rollers are not driven by the motor: they are dragged along by the turning die and the material between them. This design is simple, reliable and works very well for animal feed, forage and wood pellets.

Rotating roller (R models)

In the rotating roller design, marked with an R, the rollers are driven and press the material harder against the die. This makes R models the best choice for biomass and other materials that do not bind easily, such as peanut shells and sunflower husks. They also work better with materials that do not create enough friction or traction to turn the rollers in a standard mill.

The version letters: A, B, C and P

A: gasoline or diesel engine

A models run on a gasoline or diesel engine. They are made for farms and sites without grid power, or for moving the mill between locations.

B: electric motor with a basic electrical panel

B models have an electric motor and a basic electrical panel. They are a straightforward option when you have the right power supply and want simple controls.

C: electric motor with a complete star-delta panel

C models have an electric motor and a more complete electrical panel with a star-delta starter. A star-delta starter brings the motor up to speed with a much lower starting current before switching to full power. That protects the motor, reduces stress on your electrical installation, and helps prevent tripped breakers with larger motors and daily, continuous use.

P: tractor PTO

P models are driven by your tractor's power take-off (PTO). If you already own a tractor, a P model gives you a powerful pellet mill without an engine or motor of its own, and without the need for three-phase power.

RB: rotating roller with an electrical panel

The design letter and the version letter combine. RB means a rotating roller mill with an electric motor and electrical panel. Today the rotating roller design is available as RB in three sizes: MKFD200RB, MKFD300RB and MKFD400RB.

Frequently asked questions

Is a C model better than a B model?

Both have the same die and pelleting system. The C adds a more complete electrical panel with a star-delta starter, which is the better choice for larger motors and long daily runs.

Can a standard model make wood pellets?

Yes. Standard rotating die models make feed, forage and wood pellets. Choose an RB model when your main material is biomass that is hard to bind, such as shells and husks.

What does the number in the model mean?

It is the die diameter in millimeters. MKFD200 has a 200 mm die and MKFD400 has a 400 mm die.

Which version should I choose if I am not sure?

Tell us your raw material, how many pounds per hour you need and what power you have on site. Contact our team and we will recommend the right model and version.
